Schaumburg Flyers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Joliet JackHammers (32-27) hammered the Flyers (22-38) 12-1 Monday night at Alexian Field. The JackHammers would pick up two early runs, and wouldn't trail all night.
Â
Joliet started the scoring off right away in the top of the first. Back to back singles by Josh Flores and Jonathan Wyatt set the table for the JackHammers early. After a lineout double play by Brad Correll, a wild pitch and a double by Freddie Thon brought in the games first two runs.
Â
Schaumburg answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the second on a solo shot by Josh Burrus, making the score 2-1 JackHammers.
Â
Joliet would pickup another run in the top of the fifth. Correll reached on a walk and then Jon Nelson laced a single that put him into scoring position. Correll would be driven in soon thereafter on Thon's second double of the night, making it 3-1 JackHammers. Flyers starter Alain Quijano was pulled after pitching 4.2 innings, striking out three, walking seven. The lefty allowed three runs on four hits.
Â
Reliever Matt Elliot didn't fare much better for the Flyers as he allowed three runs in the top of the sixth. After a leadoff single by Joe Billick, a triple by Jonathan Wyatt drove him home. Then Correll blasted a two run bomb over the party deck in left field to bring the JackHammers lead to 6-1.
Â
The scoring onslaught would continue for the JackHammers in the eighth. They would tack on four more runs on four hits in the inning off of Todd Moser, the Flyers third pitcher of the contest.
Â
Joliet would add two more in the ninth off Flyers reliever Josh Giles, both of which were driven in on Correll's second homer of the night.
Â
Bear Bay (5-4) got the win for Joliet, tossing his first complete game this season. The righty allowed five hits, one run, and struck out six. Quijano (2-6) suffered the loss for Schaumburg.
Â
The Flyers and JackHammers will play game two of a three game series Tuesday night at Alexian Field in Schaumburg. It's Two for Tuesdays, which means Miller and Pepsi products are just $2.
