
Fielders Explode in Second Inning to Defeat T-Bones 7-5

The Lake County Fielders (24-33) exploded in the second inning, scoring seven runs off of five hits to beat the first place Kansas City T-Bones 7-5 in front of 4,513 at the first night game at Fielders Stadium.
Kansas City (38-21) scored first in the second inning after Ray Sadler hit a leadoff double, Jim Fasano drew a walk and Brian Joynt reached on an error by first baseman Jeff Dunbar to load the bases with no outs. Dwayne White hit into a double play that scored Sadler and Eladio Rodriguez struck out to end the inning.
The Fielders came firing back sending 12 batters to the plate and loading the bases three separate times in their half of the second. It all started when Jeff Dunbar hit a high fly to short center for a leadoff single, Adam Hale followed with a walk then Kyle Higgins singled to load the bases.
Anthony Esquer hit into a fielder's choice scoring Dunbar; Higgins was thrown out at second on the play. Guillermo Martinez reached on a walk to load the bases and Juan Valdez ripped a basehit up the middle to bring around Hale from third and Esquer from second, putting the Fielders up 3-1.
Steven Stewart (4-2) issued a third walk to Josh Short to load the bases again. Brian McFall ripped an RBI double to score Martinez and Valdez, chasing Stewart from the game. Another walk to Jeff Dunbar loaded the bases and Adam Hale came through with a two-run RBI to score Short and McFall.
Fielders starting pitcher Zach Ward (4-5) battled through 5.0, scattering three hits, five runs (four earned), while striking out three and walking five to earn the win. The bullpen came in and closed out the game for the Fielders with Chris Homer earning his eighth save of the year. Homer has yet to give up a run in 18.2 innings pitched this season.
The T-Bones put two on the board in both the third and sixth innings, but were unable to cut the Fielders lead. Ray Sadler was one-for-two on the night and scored two runs.
The Fielders face the T-Bones in game two tomorrow at Fielders Stadium. John Brownell (2-4, 4.96) will take the mound for the Fielders opposite Cody McAllister (7-3, 3.30. First pitch is slated for 7:00PM.
