Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the baseball club has signed veteran position player Donzell McDonald.
McDonald, 35, has spent the majority of this season in the Triple-A Mexican League with the Acereros de Monclova (Monclova Steelers). He hit .301 in 105 games with 12 home runs and 65 RBI.
A product of Long Beach, Cali., McDonald has 15 games of Major League experience on his resume. In 2001, he appeared in five games with the New York Yankees, going one-for-three at the plate. The following year, he saw action in 10 contests with the Kansas City Royals.
McDonald played in 16 games in the Northern League last season with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, hitting .327 with eight RBI, as Fargo won the Northern League title.
Playing in his 16th professional season, McDonald has played in the Yankees, Royals and Atlanta Braves organizations.
To make room on the roster for McDonald, the Goldeyes have placed infielder Brett Dowdy on the disabled list.
Winnipeg remains with 21 players on its roster, including 11 pitchers and 10 position players.
The Northern League roster deadline is Tuesday night at Midnight.
Winnipeg begins a seven-day, nine-game home stand tonight against the Rockford RiverHawks. Great seats are available by visiting any Ticketmaster location or by calling 780-3333.
