GOLDEYES SHUT OUT REDHAWKS 4-0
FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (24-27) were shut out by the Winnipeg Goldeyes (30-20) by a score of 4-0 at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND.
Chis Salamida (6-1) had a big night for the Goldeyes throwing over seven innings of shutout baseball. Salamida racked up seven strikeouts while only allowing six hits and one walk. The Goldeyes bullpen finished the shutout in quick fashion getting six outs on five batters.
The Goldeyes scored two runs in the second inning on a bases loaded single by Brian Joynt. Then, they added to their lead in the sixth inning. Justin Bass knocked in Jon Weber with a base hit and Luis Alen scored on a sacrifice fly by Price Kendall to make the score 4-0.
The RedHawks threatened to comeback in the eighth inning. Kole Zimmerman and Zach Penprase led off the inning with back-to-back singles, and they advanced to second and third on an error. Mike Coles followed with a fly ball to right field. The Goldeyes' right fielder, Joynt, turned the play into a rally killer by throwing out Zimmerman at the plate.
Jake Laber (6-3) surrendered all four runs (all earned) the Goldeyes scored in what turned into his first loss of the season at home. Laber pitched just over five innings, giving up nine hits and a season-high six walks.
C.J. Retherford was 2-for-4 in his debut at Newman Outdoor Field. William Jackel made his first appearance as well giving up one hit and a walk in an inning of work.
The RedHawks will take on Winnipeg again Friday night as they continue their four-game series. Game time is 7:02 pm, and there will be a fireworks display after the game. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 701-235-6161, online at www.fmredhawks.com, or at the Ticket Office during business hours.
