Goldeyes Set Opening Night Roster

May 15, 2018 - American Association (AA) - Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes made two transactions on Tuesday, trading outfielder Jonathan Moroney to the Chicago Dogs in exchange for future considerations, and releasing right-handed pitcher Tyler Beardsley.

The Goldeyes' roster is now at 23 active players, which is the American Association maximum during the regular season. American Association clubs had until 12:00 p.m. this afternoon to trim their rosters to 23 active players.

The Goldeyes open the 2018 season Friday night against the Cleburne Railroaders at The Depot at Cleburne Station.

CF Reggie Abercrombie

American Association's all-time leader in home runs and RBI. Played in the Major Leagues from 2006-08.

1B/DH David Bergin

2017 American Association All-Star Designated Hitter. Hit 23 combined home runs between regular season and playoffs.

RHP Brandon Bingel

Sidearm right-hander with rookie classification who spent the previous two years in the Pittsburgh Pirates' organization.

RHP Alex Boshers

Has won 23 games over the last two years, helping the Wichita Wingnuts to a pair of American Association Championship Series appearances.

RHP Victor Capellan

Has pitched in all 12 of the Goldeyes' postseason victories since 2016, and has pitched more than anyone in the American Association since 2015.

RHP Edwin Carl

Fourth season with the Goldeyes. Set Goldeyes' career record with fifth postseason win during 2017 championship-clincher.

RHP Jack Charleston

Saved 12 games last season at two levels of the Chicago White Sox' organization. Career 3.17 ERA in three seasons.

OF Victor Cruzado

Switch-hitting outfielder with career .366 on-base percentage. Played all of last year at Triple-A in the New York Mets' system.

LHP Shane Dawson

Fort McMurray, Alberta native. Has pitched exclusively in Double-A the last two seasons. Lifetime 36-29 record.

IF Jordan Ebert

Hit .316 for the Goldeyes in 48 games last season. Scored series-clinching run in Division Series versus Lincoln. Retains rookie classification.

C Kevin Garcia

Switch-hitting catcher with Double-A experience. Has thrown out 29 percent of opposing base stealers during first four professional seasons.

RHP Zach Hartman

Hard-throwing right-hander with a 3.19 in three professional seasons. Has averaged 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings against only 2.8 walks.

OF Grant Heyman

High power potential from the left side. Hit 24 doubles, 18 home runs, and drove in 70 at the High-A level last year in the Arizona Diamondbacks' system.

LHP Kenny Mathews

Finished with a 2.63 ERA for the Goldeyes last year in 41.0 innings. Retains rookie classification. Held left-handed hitters to a .185 average.

3B Josh Mazzola

Goldeyes' all-time leader in home runs. Ranks second on the American Association list behind Abercrombie. Fifth overall season with the club, and member of the 2012 championship team.

IF Matt McCann

Second-year professional with rookie classification. Reached Double-A in 2017 during draft year. All-time leader in stolen bases at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

RHP Cameron McVey

Power relief arm that posted a 1.62 ERA for the Lincoln Saltdogs last year. Member of the Goldeyes' 2016 championship team. Has finished with more strikeouts than innings pitched each of the past five seasons.

LHP Kevin McGovern

2017 All-Star who finished third in the American Association with a 2.56 ERA. One of only four pitchers in league history with three seasons of 100-plus strikeouts. Winning pitcher in 2016 championship-clinching game at Wichita.

1B Reynaldo Rodriguez

Veteran right-handed bat with potential for both average and power. Four-time all-star in the affiliated minor leagues. Ranked the top prospect in independent baseball following the 2009 season.

RHP Charle Rosario

American Association All-Star the past two years. Acquired by Winnipeg last August in a trade with the Gary SouthShore RailCats. One of only six pitchers in league history to win 10-plus games in three different seasons.

IF Jose Sermo

Switch-hitting infielder with defensive versatility. Totaled 49 extra-base hits at the High-A level last year in the Boston Red Sox' system. Spent parts of two seasons playing for the RailCats from 2015-16.

SS Andrew Sohn

American Association All-Star Shortstop in 2017. 88 runs scored tied for the league lead. Led all shortstops in total chances on defence.

C Gavin Stupienski

Left-handed batting catcher with rookie classification. Hit a combined .354 at two levels of the Arizona Diamondbacks' system last year.
