Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (17-15) beat the Lincoln Saltdogs 10-4 at Shaw Park on Saturday evening.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Goldeyes sent 10 batters to the plate and rallied for five runs to take the lead for good. Max Murphy doubled off the left-centre field wall leading off, while a Deon Stafford Jr. hit batsmen and a David Washington walk loaded the bases with no outs. Kevin Lachance tied the game with a single to right. Hidekel Gonzalez made it 5-3 Goldeyes with a two-run single down the left field line. Raul Navarro chipped in an RBI fielder's choice. Ian Sagdal's sacrifice fly to centre capped the rally.
Lincoln (17-14) threatened in the top of the fifth, loading the bases with no outs, but Goldeyes' starter Luis Ramirez limited the damage to just one run on a Josh Altmann sacrifice fly. Ramirez then escaped a first and second, no out jam in the top of the sixth.
After Travis Seabrooke, Erasmo Pinales, and Tasker Strobel combined for scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth, the Goldeyes extended the lead to 10-4 in the bottom of the eighth on a Navarro RBI single, an Eric Rivera sacrifice fly, and a two-out RBI single from Sagdal.
Strobel worked a perfect top of the ninth to earn his ninth save of the season.
Ramirez (4-1) picked up the win, allowing four earned runs on eight hits over six innings. Ramirez walked one and struck out seven.
Saltdogs' starter Kyle Kinman (3-2) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on five hits in three and two-thirds innings. Kinman walked two and struck out four.
Lincoln took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-out, RBI double from Justin Byrd.
In the bottom of the second, Murphy singled to left, and the Goldeyes went in front 2-1 on a Stafford two-run home run to left.
Altmann hit a two-run single in the top of the third that made it 3-2 Lincoln.
The series concludes Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Josh Lucas (1-1, 5.16) faces right-hander Zach Keenan (1-0, 4.50).
