For a sixth consecutive year, the American Association plays a continuous, 100-game schedule with three division winners and one wild card team qualifying for the postseason. The Goldeyes, Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, St. Paul Saints, and Sioux Falls Canaries comprise the American Association North.
The Goldeyes open the season on May 19th against the Joplin Blasters at Joe Becker Stadium. The 10-game, season-opening road trip also includes series against the defending champion Laredo Lemurs and Central Division's Lincoln Saltdogs.
Winnipeg's 2016 home opener is slated for Monday, May 30th versus the Sioux Falls Canaries. In total, Shaw Park welcomes nine different American Association opponents, including two visits from the rival RedHawks, and three others from the reigning division champion Saints. 46 of the Goldeyes 100 contests are scheduled against North Division foes.
Nine fireworks nights (full list below) are joined by games on Father's Day (Sunday, June 19th), Canada Day (Friday, July 1st), and Labour Day (Monday, September 5th) to help highlight the Goldeyes' 50 regular season home dates.
Beginning this season, all Goldeyes Sunday home games have been moved up to 1:00 p.m.
The Amarillo Thunderheads and Grand Prairie AirHogs-both members of the South Division-will operate as a single entity, bringing the American Association to 12 teams for 2016. The soon-to-be-named "Texas" club visits Shaw Park in June. With the league now at an even number of teams, the American Association schedule does not feature games against the Can-Am League for the first time since 2011.
The last month of the season should provide plenty of competitive excitement. The Goldeyes face 2015 playoff clubs in 17 of their final 25 games, while the remaining eight are against the RedHawks.
2016 also marks the return of the American Association All-Star Game, which is set for August 2nd at St. Paul's CHS Field.
Scheduled times for away games-as well as the Goldeyes 2016 promotional schedule-will be announced at later dates.
