St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (November 19, 2015) - The last time the St. Paul Saints hosted the American Association All-Star game the winningest pitcher in franchise history, Charlie Ruud, got the start for the North and pitched 2.0 perfect innings. That was seven years ago and in a different ballpark. The 2016 Saints season begins at CHS Field on May 19 which, in its second season, will host the league's mid-summer classic, the American Association All-Star Game, on August 2.

After the most successful season in franchise history the second installment of Saints baseball at CHS Field begins on Thursday, May 19 at 7:05 p.m. against the Gary SouthShore Railcats. The Saints opening homestand, a four game set, ends on Sunday, May 22 before the club heads out on their first roadtrip, a three-game series against their division foes, the Sioux Falls Canaries.

After a four game homestand that culminates in the first Post-Game Fireworks Super Show of the season, on Memorial Day, May 29, the Saints embark on their longest roadtrip in franchise history as CHS Field hosts multiple Minnesota high school sectional tournaments. The club will hit the road for a 14-game, 14-day, nearly 3,000 mile jaunt where they will head to Joplin, MO, Laredo, TX, a yet to be determined location in either Amarillo or Grand Prairie and back north to Sioux Falls. The previous longest roadtrip in Saints history was 13 games in 2011, where they went 9-4. Last season the Saints had their best high school tournament roadtrip going 8-1. The Saints will travel nearly 11,000 miles during the 2016 season.

Following the roadtrip the Saints and Sioux City Explorers will battle in a three-game series at CHS Field on June 13-15, a rematch of last season's first-round playoff match-up. In all, the Saints will play 28 consecutive days to start the season before an off-day on June 16.

The American Association All-Star Game will take place at CHS Field on Tuesday, August 2 at 7:05 p.m.

The Saints have 11 homestands with four of them being multi-series, including a seven game homestand to close the season from Tuesday, August 30-Monday, September 5.

In all 22 of the 50 Saints home games will take place Friday-Sunday with eight home games in May, 10 in June, 15 in July, 12 in August and five in September. The Saints will remain with the traditional 7:05 p.m. game time on Monday-Saturday, with the exception of Monday, July 4 at 6:05 p.m., and continue with the 5:05 p.m. Sunday game time. There will once again be four weekday afternoon games on Wednesday, June 29 at 1:05 p.m., Wednesday, July 27 at 1:05 p.m., Tuesday, August 23 at 12:00 p.m. and the final game of the season on Monday, September 5 at 11:05 a.m. There are eight Friday night fireworks and, along with the May 29 game, two additional Fireworks Super Shows on Independence Day, Monday, July 4 (6:05 p.m.) and Fan Appreciation Day, Sunday, September 4.

In 2016 the American Association will be a 12 team league, with the merger of the Amarillo Thunderheads and Grand Prairie AirHogs. That team will split their home games between the two ballparks: 25 at Potter County Memorial Stadium and 25 at QuickTrip Park. The league will continue to be three divisions with the North, Central and South. The North is comprised of the Saints, Fargo-Moorhead (ND) RedHawks, Sioux Falls (SD) Canaries and Winnipeg Goldeyes. The Central Division has the Gary SouthShore (IN) Railcats, Kansas City (KS) T-Bones, Lincoln (NE) Saltdogs and Sioux City (IA) Explorers. The South Division will have the combined team of Amarillo and Grand Prairie, Joplin (MO) Blasters, Laredo (TX) Lemurs and Wichita (KS) Wingnuts.

The 100 game schedule will once again be continuous, with no halves, and the playoffs consisting of the three division winners and a wild card team, which is the club with the best overall record among the non-division winners.

The Saints will play a total of 47 games within their own division (23 home, 24 away), 34 against the Central (18 home, 16 away) and 19 against the South (9 home, 10 away).

Group and specialty seating tickets will go on sale December 1 while single game tickets will go on sale in March. Season tickets are currently available for CHS Field. For more information contact the Saints ticket office at 651-644-6659 or visit saintsbaseball.com.
