
Goldeyes Rally Late to Beat RailCats

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (42-38) beat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 4-3 at Shaw Park on Wednesday night.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Goldeyes rallied for two runs to take the lead. Kevin Lachance singled up the middle leading off and took third when Logan Hill doubled into the left field corner. Two batters later, Deon Stafford hit a sacrifice fly to right that scored Lachance. Tyler Hill gave Winnipeg the lead with a two-out single to left-centre.
Donnie Hart struck out two in a perfect top of the ninth to earn his fifth save. Hart fell two pitches shy of an immaculate inning.
Travis Seabrooke (4-0) worked a perfect top of the eighth and picked up the win in relief. Nick Garcia (1-5) took the loss for the RailCats (33-50).
Winnipeg took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Stafford led off with an opposite-field home run to right.
In the top of the fifth, Jesus Marriaga doubled leading off, took third on a groundball to second from Jackson Smith, and scored the tying run on a groundout to second from Hayden Schilling.
Gary SouthShore took a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth on a two-run triple from MJ Rookard. Goldeyes' starter Eduard Reyes and reliever Joseph Camacho recorded three consecutive groundball outs to prevent Rookard from scoring a potential fourth run.
Reyes took a no-decision, allowing three earned runs on eight hits in six and one-third innings. Reyes walked none and struck out one.
RailCats' starter Adam Heidenfelder also took a no-decision, allowing two earned runs on 10 hits in six and one-third innings. Heidenfelder walked two and struck out four.
The series concludes Thursday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. Dylan Burns (0-2, 6.32) faces right-hander Jack Alkire (5-5, 4.87).
