
Goldeyes Rally in Ninth, Win in 12th

JACKSON, TN - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (21-23) beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 9-7 in 12 innings at The Ballpark at Jackson on Thursday night.
With two outs in the bottom of the 12th, Jay Gonzalez slugged a two-run home run to right to win the game. It was Gonzalez's second career home run.
The Goldeyes trailed 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth when Kyle Martin reached on an infield single with one out. After Martin stole second, Raul Navarro ripped a single down the left field line to tie the game.
Daniel Kubiuk, Jose Jose, Kyle Thomas, and Ken Frosch each pitched a scoreless inning from the ninth through the 12th to allow the Goldeyes to tie and ultimately win the game. Frosch (4-3) picked up the win in relief.
Ryan Flores (2-2) took the loss in relief for the RedHawks (26-21).
Fargo-Moorhead jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. Will Zimmerman tripled to centre on the first pitch of the game and was driven home on an RBI single from Manuel Boscan. Jordan George added a two-out, RBI single later in the frame.
Navarro hit a two-out, RBI double in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Leobaldo Pina re-extended the lead to 4-1 in the top of the fifth with a two-run home run to left.
The Goldeyes grabbed the two runs right back in the bottom of the fifth. After two errors and a walk loaded the bases with one out, Navarro lined a single to right-centre that plated Gonzalez. Logan Hill followed with a sacrifice fly to centre that scored Max Murphy.
Zimmerman hit a two-out, RBI single in the top of the sixth that pushed the RedHawks' lead to 5-4.
The Goldeyes then rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. A Kevin Lachance single, an Austin Rei hit by pitch, and a Dakota Conners walk loaded the bases with no outs. After a RedHawks' pitching change, Gonzalez grounded a single up the middle to score Lachance and Rei with the tying runs. Two batters later, Martin drove a sacrifice fly to centre to score Conners.
The RedHawks took a 7-6 lead in the top of the eighth on a two-run home run from John Silviano.
Pete Perez started for the Goldeyes and took a no-decision, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits in six innings. Perez walked one and struck out four.
Gage Hinsz started for the RedHawks and also took a no-decision, allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits over five innings. Hinsz walked four and struck out five.
With three hits, Navarro has hit safely in 11 straight games. Martin's single in the ninth extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Gonzalez's lone professional home run prior to Thursday came on June 2nd, 2016 for the High-A Carolina League's Frederick Keys (Baltimore Orioles) while hosting the Potomac Nationals. Gonzalez also finished with a career-high four RBI. Nate Antone struck out the side during a scoreless top of the seventh in his return from the Injured List.
The Goldeyes open a three-game series against the Gary SouthShore RailCats at The Ballpark at Jackson on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. All the action can be heard locally on CJNU 93.7 FM and worldwide at www.cjnu.ca
The Goldeyes will continue to monitor the reopening of the Canada/US border and assess a potential return to Shaw Park in 2021.
