Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - Ramon Hernandez hit 13 home runs in 114 games with the Kane County Cougars in 2017 as an Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate. The now-Cleburne first baseman belted his 11th and 12th home runs in his 45th game of the season, as the Railroaders (26-20) took the series opener 6-1 over the Cougars (24-24) Friday night at Northwestern Medicine Field.

Josh Allen started the scoring with a solo shot off of Cleburne starter Austin Fairchild (3-3) in the bottom of the 3rd. It was the third straight game in which Allen drove in the Cougars' first run. The Railroaders tallied six unanswered runs after that.

Ben Allison (2-1) held Cleburne scoreless until Noah Vaughan launched a three-run homer in the fourth inning. That would have been enough for the Railroaders for the rest of the game, but Hernandez sent a solo shot over the left field fence three batters later.

Allison didn't allow any more Cleburne offense after that, but the Cougars' offense couldn't help out on their end. The Cougar right hander had one run too many to qualify for a quality outing, as he finished with a season-high seven runs, eight hits, four runs and three strikeouts.

Hernandez had one more blast in him, sending a two-run homer over the left field fence for the final two runs of the game. Another former Cougar, Zach Nehrir, also collected two hits in his return to Kane County.

The Cougars will try and even the series Saturday evening with left-hander Koby Bishop (0-2, 5.02) on the mound against Cleburne's Garrett Alexander (5-4, 6.51). First pitch from Northwestern Medicine Field is at 6:30 p.m. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com.
