July 9, 2021 - American Association (AA) News Release
Milwaukee 6 Cleburne 0
Lefty David Holmberg tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts as the Milkmen (26-19) rolled to a 6-0 win over the Railroaders (25-20) on Thursday night. Holmberg retired the first fourteen he faced before Noah Vaughan hit an infield single with two out in the fifth. Chase Simpson had a single in the seventh for Cleburne's only other hit. Meanwhile, Adam Brett Walker II went deep twice, and Logan Trowbridge also homered for Milwaukee.
Sioux Falls 5 Kansas City 1
Tyler Garkow went 6.2 innings, allowing only four hits and one run while striking out nine as the Canaries (19-26) defeated the Monarchs (27-18) 5-1 on Thursday night. Troy Alexander and Shamoy Christopher each homered for Sioux Falls, while Garkow and reliever Colby Wyatt limited Kansas City to one extra-base hit, a double by Will Kengor, as the Monarchs five-game winning streak was snapped.
Winnipeg 9 Fargo-Moorhead 7 F/12
Jay Gonzalez hit a walk-off two-run homer in the last of the twelfth as the Goldeyes (21-23) completed a three-game sweep of the RedHawks (26-21) with a 9-7 win on Thursday night. Trailing in the bottom of the ninth, Raul Navarro tied the game with a single to score Kyle Martin. Leobaldo Pina and John Silviano homered for Fargo-Moorhead while the last four relievers for Winnipeg combined to go four innings, allowing only one hit while striking out four.
Kane County 2 Houston 1 F/11
Nick Santoro drove home Josh Rolette with a single in the home half of the eleventh and the Cougars (24-23) edged the Apollos (7-38) by a count of 2-1 on Thursday night. Kane County starter Tyler Viza threw seven solid innings, allowing just three hits and a run while striking out eleven. His only mistake was a home run by Houston's Blake Berry in support of Apollos starter Connor Berry (6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K) but the Cougars tied the game in the eighth on a Josh Allen sacrifice fly before the winning sequence in the eleventh.
Lincoln 11 Sioux City 1
A seven-run bottom of the first and a terrific start by Saltdogs pitcher Greg Minier led to an easy 11-1 win for Lincoln (22-23) over the Explorers (28-18) on Thursday night. The Saltdogs scored seven runs on six hits in the first, highlighted by a two-run double by Edgar Corcino. Greg Minier cruised from there, throwing six shutout innings on two hits with one walk and seven strikeouts to earn the win. Lane Milligan homered for Sioux City's only run.
