Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Adam Heisler came within a couple feet of a thrilling game-tying home run, but it died at the warning track and the Winnipeg Goldeyes fell 5-3 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Saturday night before 4,822 fans at Shaw Park.

The loss moves the 35-43 Goldeyes eight games back of the Joplin Blasters in the American Association wild card race. Winnipeg has also lost three in a row.

After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the fourth, Casey Haerther hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to bring the Goldeyes back to within a run.

The RedHawks extended their lead with a run in the fifth and two in the seventh to make 5-1.

The Goldeyes waited until the bottom of the ninth to rally. Josh Mazzola led off with a double, went to third on a Luis Alen groundout and scored on a Tillman Pugh double. Ryan Babineau then scored Pugh with a double. After James Boddicker struck out, Heisler sailed a hanging breaking ball towards the right field fence, but the humid air held it up just enough to keep it in the ballpark for the final out.

Heisler led the Goldeyes offensively with two hits.

Goldeyes starter Matt Jackson gave up five runs in 6 1/3 innings of work and suffered the loss. Fargo starter Tyler Alexander pitched a complete game for the win.

Brendan Lafferty, Mark Pope, Mike Noteware and Rett Varner combined for 2 2/3 of scoreless relief, although Lafferty gave up two inherited runs that were charged to Jackson.

Winnipeg will try to avoid being swept in the series Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. The Goldeyes will send Kyle Anderson (3-5, 4.77) to the hill against Fargo's Taylor Stanton (3-3, 3.80).

Tickets for all Goldeyes games are available through Ticketmaster by clicking on Ticketmaster.ca, calling 1-855-GOLDEYE or visiting any Ticketmaster outlet, including the Shaw Park box office.
