Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Grasshoppers offense struggled to string hits together in a 7-1 loss to the Asheville Tourists on Monday afternoon at First National Bank Field. Asheville completed a sweep of the 4-game series while Greensboro (21-26 Second Half, 55-61 Overall) dropped its sixth straight game, matching its longest losing skid of the season.
Siler City, N.C., native Casey Golden added another home run (28) against the Grasshoppers, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored as the Tourists out-hit the Hoppers, 10-8. Taylor Snyder and Nic Motley also added home runs as the Tourists earned their fifth straight win.
The Grasshoppers added a highlight of their own on the afternoon as Miami Marlins first round pick Connor Scott made a diving grab in center field to rob Jeff Moberg of extra-bases in the top of the seventh inning. As the ball left the bat, Scott raced back and to his right, losing his cap, before leaping to make the catch and sliding onto the warning track.
Asheville starter Frederis Parra (3-3) earned the win, limiting Greensboro to a run on eight hits over 6.0 innings with five strikeouts and two walks. Derrik Watson also fanned five over 2.0 relief innings for the Tourists before Hunter Williams pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Daniel Castano (4-3) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits -- including a pair of home runs -- over 6.0 frames. Scott Sebald faced two batters but did not record an out to open the seventh inning before Nestor Bautista took the mound and closed the game for the Grasshoppers with 3.0 innings pitched.
The Grasshoppers are off Tuesday before hitting the road Wednesday for a 7-game trip to Greenville and Kannapolis. The team returns to Greensboro on Thursday, August 23, for its final home stand of the season, and tickets are available for all games online at gsohoppers.com.
