
Suns Win Second Straight on Sunday Night

Charleston, SC - The Hagerstown Suns won their second straight in a 3-1 victory over the Charleston RiverDogs on Sunday night at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park. Hagerstown improves to 46-69 overall with an 18-28 second-half record and will wrap up both the four-game and season series with Charleston on Monday with a 7:05 PM first pitch.
Hagerstown jumped out to an early lead, scoring a pair of runs in the first against RiverDogs starter Reiver Sanmartin. Armond Upshaw singled to left and Cole Freeman followed with a single to right. Jake Scudder moved Freeman to third while plating Upshaw with a single to center, giving the Suns a 1-0 edge. Alex Dunlap lifted a sacrifice fly to center, bringing in Freeman to extend Hagerstown's lead to 2-0.
The RiverDogs scored their lone run of the game in the fifth against Suns starter Andrew Lee. Welfrin Mateo singled through the left side of the infield and went to second when Wilkerman Garcia walked. With two outs, Mitchell Hansen doubled to right to plate Mateo and cut the Suns lead to 2-1.
The Suns extended their lead in the seventh against RiverDogs reliever Anderson Severino. With two outs, Nick Choruby singled to left and stole second, going to third on an errant throw by Severino. In the same at-bat, a passed ball allowed Choruby to score, extending Hagerstown's lead to 3-1.
Lee (4-2) tossed five innings while allowing one run on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts in a win. Carlos Pena hurled three shutout innings while holding the RiverDogs to one hit with two strikeouts in his third hold of the season. Phil Morse earned his third save of the year by allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth.
Notes: Lee has earned a win in his last two decisions with his last victory happening back on July 12... Freeman extended his hit streak to eight games... Scudder has a five-game hit streak... He also has an RBI in each of his last three games... Choruby has a four-game hitting streak and collected his seventh multi-hit game of the season... After earning the save on Saturday, Morse leads the team in both saves and save opportunities... Esthay collected his fifth outfield assist of the season... He now has two assists to third base, which is the most on the team... Choruby stole his fifth base in three days... He's up to 10 on the season... Hagerstown clinched a season-series win after Sunday's victory against the RiverDogs, leading the series 5-2... Hagerstown is 9-8 on Sundays, and 7-2 on the road in Sunday games... The team is 5-5 in the month of August after the win... The Suns and RiverDogs conclude their season series on Monday with a 7:05 PM first pitch... Hagerstown will send RHP Tomas Alastre (4-6, 5.11 ERA) to the mound against Charleston RHP Nolan Martinez (0-1, 3.00 ERA).
