
Goaltender Szuper Named Sun National Bank ECHL Saver of the Month for March

Peoria, Ill. (April 8, 2004) â The ECHL announced today that Peoria Rivermen goaltender Levente Szuper is the Sun National Bank ECHL Saver of the Month for March.
Szuper, who is on a two-way with the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate â the Worcester IceCats, was 11-1-0 with three shutouts, a 1.75 goals against average (GAA) and a .935 save percentage in 12 games for the Rivermen in March.
Selected in the fourth round (116th overall) by Calgary in the 2000 National Hockey League Entry Draft, the 23-year-old Szuper won his first six starts of the month which included back-to-back 2-0 shutouts at Toledo (March 12 â 26 saves & March 13 â 24 saves). He closed out the regular season winning his last six games, including his third shutout of the month with 26 saves against Dayton on March 26.
After beginning the season with a record of 0-3-1, a 4.35 goals against average and a .818 save percentage, the 5-11 and 180-pound Szuper went 23-5-0 with a 2.03 GAA and a .926 save percentage in his next 28 games. He finished the regular season with a career-best record of 23-8-1, a career-low 2.31 GAA and a career-high .915 save percentage. He tied for sixth among ECHL goaltenders in GAA and shutouts with four.
Szuper, who appeared in three games with Worcester (AHL) during 2003-2004, played the last three seasons for the Saint John Flames (AHL) helping them win the Calder Cup in 2001. He was 43-46-9 with a 2.50 GAA and a .903 save percentage in 112 regular season games with Saint John.
He played two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) going 53-21-5 with a 2.47 GAA and a .916 save percentage in 85 games for the Ottawa 67's. He helped Ottawa capture the 1999 Memorial Cup Championship, winning one game in the finals.
The Rivermen take on the defending champion Atlantic City in Game Two of the Northern Division Semifinals is Friday, April 9 at 6:05 p.m. CT at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. Games Three and Four (if necessary) are in Peoria, Ill. Monday, April 12 and Tuesday, April 13, respectively. Game times are 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena.
