Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - After impressing in his USHL debut three weeks ago, goaltender Colin DeAugustine will be sticking around Youngstown for the remainder of the 2013-14 season. The Youngstown Phantoms have officially added DeAugustine to their 23-man, assistant general manager and director of player personnel Jason Koehler announced today.
Youngstown's 19th-round pick in the 2012 USHL Entry Draft, DeAugustine, 18, began the season with the Johnstown Tomahawks before called up by the Phantoms Oct. 10. He made his USHL debut the following night at the Covelli Centre, posting a 27-save shutout as the Phantoms downed the Chicago Steel 3-0.
"Colin has proved that he's more than capable of competing at this level and really earned this opportunity," Koehler said. "With Sean [Romeo] and Colin in net, we feel very comfortable with our goaltending situation. We feel that this is a move that will benefit Colin and our program not just this season, but down the road as well.
"I'd like to thank everyone in the Johnstown Tomahawks organization for being extremely supportive through this process."
A native of Burgettstown, Pa., DeAugustine has a 2-0-0 record with a 1.44 goals against average and .952 save percentage in two games with the Phantoms. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound netminder posted a 2-2-1 record with a 2.99 GAA and .875 save percentage in five starts with Johnstown earlier this season. Prior to that he spent the past three seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite AAA program.
DeAugustine will wear No. 29 for Youngstown.
In a separate transaction Koehler also announced that the Phantoms have released goaltender Jake Moore to Johnstown for the remainder of the 2013-14 season. Moore played in a combined 14 games with Youngstown between this season and the 2012-13 campaign, posting a 5-6-1 record with a 4.48 GAA and .837 save percentage.
"Jake did everything the right way over the past two seasons. He's a great young man and great goaltender and we all agreed that this is be the best move for his career," Koehler said. "He'll have the chance to be a No. 1 goalie in Johnstown and we're confident that he'll excel there. We wish him nothing but the best."
