New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - Brad Glenn picked up an RBI for the third night in a row, Ryan Goins racked up four more hits, and Mike McDade popped another home run, but the Fisher Cats (13-20) couldn't overcome a five-run Binghamton first inning in an 11-4 loss on Friday night. The defeat is the fifth straight for New Hampshire and the second in a row to open the series with the Mets (16-17).
Binghamton's five-run first inning took place against starter Deck McGuire (L; 1-5), who failed to make it out of the frame. He faced seven batters, allowing five runs on five hits and a walk. He left the game in a 5-0 deficit with just one out in the inning.
After Fernando Hernandez stopped the first inning bleeding, the Fisher Cats rallied for two runs in the bottom of the frame. Goins and A.J. Jimenez reached on a single and a double, respectively, before Mark Sobolewski drove home the first run with a groundout. After a single by Mike McDade, Glenn lofted a sac fly to center to cut the deficit to 5-2.
New Hampshire ended up leaving the bases loaded in the first, and that allowed Binghamton starter Gonzalez Hermen (W; 1-1) to settle into rhythm. He allowed just two hits through his next five innings, including a single by Goins. In the seventh, Germen gave up three more hits - the last a run-scoring single by Goins that made it 10-3 at the time.
McDade's fourth home run came against reliever Edgar Ramirez in the eighth inning with the B-Mets leading 11-3. Goins finished the game with three hits and an RBI, his team-leading 18th. He has a team-high 12 multi-hit games, tallying at least three hits in six of those contests. Glenn picked up his 14th RBI, and now has four over his last 3 games.
The bullpen covered the final 8.1 innings of the game after McGuire left, starting with a perfect inning and two thirds from Fernando Hernandez. Matt Daly, Matt Wright, and Aaron Loup followed, with each giving up a home run during their outing.
The series continues with the third game on Saturday at 1:35 PM. Saturday's forecast calls for sunshine with highs in the seventies as the Fisher Cats give the first 1,000 kids a free Kids Jersey courtesy of Northeast Delta Dental. For tickets and information, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
