New Britain Rock Cats News Release
NEW BRITAIN, CT -Reading's Trevor May took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but it was the Rock Cats who came out on top with a 4-1 victory over the Phillies on Friday night.
New Britain starter David Bromberg flirted with a no-hitter of his until allowing a hit in the fifth inning. With two outs, Reading's Troy Hanzawa singled into right field to break up his no-hit bid. That was the only hit the Phillies would muster off of the Rock Cats righty, though.
Meanwhile, May (5-2) left the game in the seventh with a no-hitter in-tact, but was also responsible for two men on base. In the seventh, May picked up a quick first out before hitting Chris Colabello with a pitch and walking Deibinson Romero. With a pitch count at 109 and trouble brewing, the Phillies turned to the bullpen. Evan Bigley greeted reliever Lisalberto Bonilla with a single into left that knocked in Colabello for the first run of the night.
Wilkin Ramirez homered for the third-straight game as he slugged a solo shot in the eighth inning to give the Rock Cats an insurance run. The Rock Cats tacked on two more runs in the eighth, with Aaron Hicks scoring on a bases loaded walk and Chris Herrmann crossing the plate on a wild pitch by Jordan Whatcott.
Bromberg struck out seven in six shutout innings but came away with the tough-luck no-decision. Lestor Oliveros (1-1) added two perfect innings in relief out of the Rock Cats bullpen to pick up the victory.
ALLSTATE PLAYER OF THE GAME: RHP David Bromberg allowed just one hit in six shutout innings. He struck out seven.
