NORTH CHARLESTON, SC ‚¬" Billy Sauer stopped all 32 shots he faced, including a late flurry from South Carolina in the third period of a 1-0 Gladiator win at Friday night at North Charleston Coliseum.

After a defensive, scoreless first two periods the Glads (11-4-0-4) started the third on the powerplay. As the man advantage expired Andy Brandt took a pass from Matt Francis and beat goalie Shane Connelly with a low wrist shot from the far circle to give Gwinnett a 1-0 lead just 1:16 into the period.

The Stingrays had their chances to equalize, particularly on a late powerplay chance over the last 82 seconds of the game. The puck never left the Gladiators zone, but Sauer stood on his head and kept SC off the board.

Gwinnett was outshot 32-13, and failed to score on their only powerplay chance on the night. South Carolina went 0-for-3 on the PP to extend the Gladiators streak to 29 opposing powerplays successfully killed off.

The Gladiators return home Saturday at 7:05 pm for a rematch with the Toledo Walleye.
