Atlanta Gladiators News Release
A New Record! Gladiators forward Brad Schell set a new Gladiators team record for most assists in a season. Schell shattered both the Gladiators team record and the all time franchise record for most assists in a season. Schell now has 63 assists on the season surpassing Brand Dietrich's Gladiators team record of 60 assists set during the 2003-04 season while he passed the all time team record of 61 assists set by Jamie Ling during the 1996-97 season with the Mobile Mysticks.
Up to the "A": The Gladiators lost Jon Awe to the Chicago Wolves on the American Hockey League on Monday. Awe makes his second trip to the Wolves this season and his third trip to the AHL this year. Awe collected an assist for the Wolves on Friday night and added two assists with the Chicago on Saturday night.
The 1-2 Punch! Brad Schell and Scott Mifsud continue to rank 1-2 in scoring in the ECHL through 42 games this season. Schell and Mifsud have combined for 144 points this season for Gwinnett as Schell has 82 points while Mifsud has 62 points for Gwinnett. Mike Pandolfo of Trenton ranks third with 55 points on the season, 7 back of Mifsud.
A true Advantage: The Gladiators continue to lead the ECHL on the power play this season converting over 25% of their chances on the man advantage. Gwinnett has collected 82 power play goals this season. Gwinnett needs just 33 power play goals to tie the ECHL record for power play goals in a season. The Nashville Knights hold the current ECHL record for most power play goals in a season with 115 set during the 1995-96 season. To set a new ECHL record for power play goals in a season, the Gladiators need to average 0.91 power play goals per game over their final 30 games of the regular season.
Lucky #7: Dan Turple posted his 7th consecutive win for the Gladiators in Friday's 6-5 overtime win over the Everblades. Turple finished with 33 saves for the Gladiators in the win and has not posted a loss for Gwinnett since an 8-5 loss at Pensacola on December 29th. The netminder has posted a 2.81 goals against average and a 0.910 save percentage for the Gladiators during his current wining streak.
Kids Jersey Night: Saturday, February 3rd is the Gladiators annual Kids Jersey night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center as the first 2,000 kids ages 10 and under will receive a free kids replica jersey at the game. Kids Jersey Night is sponsored by Team Cowan - Remax Professionals, Mars Van Lines, The Gwinnett Daily Post and Kicks 101.5 FM.
