Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)--Captains catcher Chris Gimenez hit a homer and drove in four runs Wednesday night, leading the Lake County Captains to a 7-3 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers at Classic Park.
Gimenez slugged a two-run homer in the first inning off Aaron Thompson (6-5). It was his sixth of the year.
In the third, Johnny Drennen led off with a triple to center, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Gimenen followed with an RBI double to make it 3-0.
The Grasshoppers (9-11) tied the game in the fifth with three runs on four consecutive hits off Captains starter Jim Deters (7-6). Matt Kutler singled, Jonathan Fulton had an RBI double, Greg Burns added an RBI single, and James Guerrero chipped in a run-scoring single to tie the game at 3-3.
The Captains (12-8) regained the lead in the fifth, thanks again to Gimenez, who doubled home Chris De La Cruz for a 4-3 lead. Mike Conroy followed with a hit to score Gimenez and P.J. Hiser later drove in Conroy with a sacrifice fly.
Gimenez, who missed a month of the first half with a torn ligament in his right thumb, raised his RBI total to 20.
Deters worked seven innings to claim his second straight win. He did not issue a walk, and registered one strikeout. Righthander Matt Loberg worked the final two innings for his first save.
The Captains have won five straight, which matches the team's season-high. The Lakewood BlueClaws won their fifth straight as well Wednesday, knocking off West Virginia 4-1 to remain three games ahead of the Captains.
Game three of the series is Thursday night at 7:05. Frank Herrmann will start for the Captains against Greensboro's Chris Volstad.
