Rome, GA - The Rome Braves took game one of a three game series over the Charleston RiverDogs 3-2 in front of a crowd of 3,300 at State Mutual Stadium Wednesday night.

Charleston jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. The Braves waited until the fifth to get their bats going, beginning with back-to-back singles from Cody Clark and Josh Morris. Clark was later thrown out at third on a bunt from Jordan Schafer who was trying to advance the runners. Derrick Arnold then stepped up to the plate and singled to load the bases for Ovandy Suero. Suero delivered, driving in Morris and Schafer, tying the game before getting caught in a rundown and tagged out. The Braves took the lead in the seventh as Morris tallied his second hit of the night on a double to deep right field and was driven in on a sizzling line drive single to right from Schafer. Rome's bullpen made the lead hold up as the Braves went on for the victory 3-2.

Starter Phil Stockman, on a Major League rehab assignment from Atlanta, pitched a solid first inning giving up one hit and striking out two. Jairo Cuevas (4-7) recorded the win for Rome after throwing two innings and giving up one hit and facing seven batters. Lee Hyde, in his first-ever professional appearance, recorded the save for Rome. Bryan Villalona (7-5) threw a complete game and recorded the loss for the RiverDogs.

Game two between Charleston and Rome is tomorrow at 7 pm at State Mutual Stadium. CSS will televise the game with Matt Stewart and Nick Belmonte handling the play by play duties. For ticket information call 706-378-5144 or log on to www.romebraves.com.
