Jackets lose 4-1 to Intimidators

July 12, 2006 - The GreenJackets ended their 11-game winning streak Wednesday night as they lost 4-1 to the Kannapolis Intimidators. The first place Jackets just could not get their bats swinging as they managed only six hits on the evening.

The Intimidators put the first numbers on the board in the first inning. Paulo Orlando started the inning off with a double down the left-field line. Orlando then came home when next at bat, Aaron Cunningham, reached on a throwing error by Joseph Martinez. The I's scored once more in the first when Cunningham was plated on a Francisco Hernandez double to left field.

The Jackets managed their only run in the third inning on a Ben Copeland sacrifice fly to left field allowing Kyle Haines to score.

The Intimidators scored the last two runs of the night in the seventh inning. One of those runs was scored on yet another Jackets error as Barry Gunther over threw his pickoff attempt allowing Javier Castillo to come home. Brandson Johnson was last Intimidator to score, as he was plated on a Cunningham RBI that left the score 4-1.

Derek Rodriquez improved his record to 3-9 as he picked up the win tonight while Jason Rice received his sixth save of the season. Joseph Martinez got the lose for the GreenJackets making his record 8-5.

The Jackets and Intimidators meet again for the second game of the three game series, Thursday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium at 7:05 pm. Thursday is another Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark where drafts are just $1.
