Giants' Joe Panik to Begin Rehab Stint Memorial Day in Sacramento

West Sacramento, CA - Giants' All-Star and Gold Glove second baseman Joe Panik is expected to begin a rehab assignment with the Sacramento River Cats tomorrow afternoon - Memorial Day, Monday, May 28 at Raley Field against the Albuquerque Isotopes. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. and gates open at 12:00 p.m. He is also scheduled to play Tuesday, May 29, first pitch 12:05 p.m.

Panik has been sidelined for nearly a month after undergoing surgery on April 30 to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb. Tomorrow's game will be his first game-action since April 27. This will be Panik's third stint with the River Cats, as the 27-year-old also rehabbed with Sacramento during the 2015 and 2017 seasons.

Drafted by the Giants in the first round (29th overall) of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft, Panik finished sixth in Rookie of the Year voting in 2014, has been named an All-Star once (2015) and has won one Gold Glove award (2016).
