Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds (31-20) picked up their second-straight shutout win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Brewers) Sunday night at AutoZone Park, winning 5-0 behind solid pitching by a trio of hurlers and a four-run third inning.
It was Memphis' first back-to-back shutout wins since June 11-12, 2016 against Colorado Springs.
Austin Gomber pitched the Redbirds' eighth-straight quality start, going 6.0 innings and giving up five singles and striking out six. He fanned a pair in his first and final innings of work, and 70 of his 105 pitches went for strikes. Mike O'Reilly pitched 2.0 perfect innings of relief, and Arturo Reyes pitched the ninth to seal with win.
The Redbirds are 6-2 in this stretch of eight-straight quality starts after going 3-4 in the previous seven games without one.
Andrew Knizner was 3-for-4 with two doubles for the Redbirds, and Rangel Ravelo homered for the second-straight game. Patrick Wisdom extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a 1-for-3 contest, and he also had a sacrifice fly that scored a run in the seventh. Ravelo also tripled in the ballgame and scored on that Wisdom sac fly.
Wisdom is hitting .442 (19-43) on his streak, which is the longest by a Redbird this year.
Memphis plated four runs in the third inning to open the scoring, sending nine to the plate, with all of its runs crossing the dish with two outs.
Ramon Urias had a two-run single in the third inning.
The Redbirds and Sky Sox have two more games in this five-game series, tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. and Tuesday at 12:05, before Memphis heads to New Orleans for five games. For more information on single-game tickets and ticket mini-memberships, visit www.memphisredbirds.com.
