Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants struggled on home ice, falling 4-2 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes Saturday night at the Pacific Coliseum. It was the first win for the Canes over the Giants since December of 2004, ending a 12 game losing streak vs. Vancouver.
Taylor Makin opened the scoring with his 6th goal of the season with 2:07 left in the first period, but the Hurricanes would respond 54 seconds later on the power play to tie the game at 1-1 after one period.
Jaimen Yakubowski had two breakaways early in the second period; the first one was stopped and the second one he was taken down by Blake Orban, drawing a penalty shot. He would make no mistake beating Adam Morrison to give Lethbridge at 2-1 lead. Yakubowski would score his 2nd of the night just over 2 minutes later to put the visitors up 3-1. The Giants cut the lead to one before the period was out as James Henry scored on the power play to snap his 10 game goalless drought. Lethbridge led 3-2 through 40 minutes.
In the the third the Giants had their chances, but were unable to beat Damien Ketlo. The Hurricanes would add an empty netter to make it a 4-2 final. Both teams finished 1-for-5 on the power play.
The Giants are back in action Tuesday December 13 when they make the trip to Seattle to take on the Thunderbirds. Game time is 7:05 pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30 pm on AM 650.
