George Named PCL Pitcher Of The Week
June 18, 2007 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
After winning two starts in which he did not allow an earned run in 14 innings-pitched, Albuquerque Isotopes starting pitcher Chris George has earned Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week honors for games beginning on June 11 and continuing through June 17, the League announced today.
George was flat-out brilliant in both his starts over the week, allowing just one unearned run and yielding just 12 total hits in his 14 innings of work while walking five and striking out 12. After allowing one unearned run in seven innings in a win against Oklahoma on June 12, the left-hander was dominant against Round Rock on June 17, throwing seven shutout innings in which he scattered six hits and struck out seven.
In six of George's 15 starts this season, he has gone at least five innings while holding the opposition to one run or less. His back-to-back wins also even his season record at 5-5, the most victories by an Albuquerque starter this year.
George becomes just the third pitcher to take the PCL's weekly honor in the five year history of the franchise. Right-hander Travis Smith earned Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week honors on August 22-28, 2005, while Nic Ungs garnered the PCL Pitcher of the Week accolade on May 15-21 of last year.
