TODAY'S OPPONENT:
The New Orleans Zephyrs are the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets. They have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 1998. This is the first year the Mets are the parent club. The Zephyrs were affiliated with Washington in 2005-2006. Last year, the Zephyrs finished third in the American South Division with a 72-71 record.
VS. NEW ORLEANS:
The RedHawks took three of four from the Zephyrs April 26-29 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The Hawks outscored the Z's 26-12. The RedHawks hit three of their nine April homers in the series. Tug Hulett had a good series against the Z's, hitting .528 (7-12) with two doubles, a triple and an RBI in four games. Last season at Zephyr Field, the Z's took seven of eight, sweeping a four-game set June 30-July 3.
TODAY'S GAME:
This is game 70 of the season. It's the final of a four-game series and the eighth of 16 meetings between Oklahoma and New Orleans this season. This the last game of an 8-game road trip. The Hawks return home for seven games, starting with Albuquerque on Wednesday.
LAST GAME:
The RedHawks were shut out for the third time this season, losing 4-0 yesterday. Starter John Rheinecker took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings. The Z's scored a run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead as they got seven shutout innings from starter Jose Santiago.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Mark Redman
makes his fifth start of the season for the RedHawks. Redman went the distance in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday, losing 3-2 at Albuquerque. Brian Lawrence will start for the Zephyrs.
ON THE ROAD:
The RedHawks are 3-4 on this road trip. They were 4-12 in the previous 16 road games before this trip. The starters are 3-4 with three quality starts and a 4.33 ERA during the trip. For the season, the Hawks have a 6.13 road ERA compared to a 4.44 ERA at home.
BOTTS' STREAK ENDS: Jason Botts
went 0-for-4 and didn't reach base safely, ending his 31-game on-base streak.
3, 4 PUNCH:
The RedHawks are 8-5 with Botts and Nate Gold hitting in the three and four spots in the lineup this season. Gold went 0-for-4 yesterday as the RedHawks failed to get a hit from Botts or Gold in a game for only the second time this month. In June, Botts is hitting .375 with two homers and nine RBIs, and Gold is hitting .403 with three homers and 21 RBIs.
CRUZ-ING: Nelson Cruz
has made the most of his stint with the RedHawks. In 10 games since joining the RedHawks, Cruz is hitting .313 (10-32) with four home runs and eight RBIs. Cruz has a hit in six consecutive games after going 1-for-2 last night.
HAWKS AMONG THE LEAGUE LEADERS:
Botts is tied for second in the PCL with 23 doubles and he is third with a .421 on-base percentage. Freddy Guzman is tied for fourth with 16 stolen bases.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
The RedHawks tied a season-low with only three hits...Yesterday was the RedHawks' quickest nine-inning game of the season, lasting 2:06...the RedHawks are 5-12 in the finale of a series this season...the Hawks are 3-5 on Monday this season, and 8-9 in day games...Hawk hitters have drawn the second most walks in the PCL this season with 277.
