Nashville Sounds News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Outfielder Tony Gwynn, who spent the majority of the 2006 season with the Sounds, will rejoin the club later this week after being optioned to Nashville by Milwaukee on Monday afternoon.
The Brewers sent Gwynn down to make room on their roster to activate second baseman Rickie Weeks, another former Sound, from the disabled list.
Gwynn batted .301 (25-for-83) with eight RBIs in 49 games for the Brewers this season after making the club in spring training. He had only 14 at-bats in June, however, collecting two hits.
The son of the recently-elected Hall-of-Fame Padres outfielder of the same name was a Pacific Coast League mid-season All-Star for Nashville in 2006, when he batted a career-high .300 in 112 games and led the club in hits (134), runs scored (73), triples (five), and at-bats (447).
The Sounds will need to make a corresponding move to add Gwynn to the roster.
