Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa, Ontario - Oshawa and Belleville played a defensive thriller Sunday night. Unfortunately, the Generals came out on the wrong end of the score falling 2-1 to the Bulls in a shootout before an emotionally drained crowd of 4262 at the General Motors Centre. Kevin Bailie made 28 saves and had a fantastic shootout in the loss. It took no less than 12 shooters to determine the game's winner!

Belleville looked to carry their 4 game roll into the first period, but Oshawa was having none of it - the Bulls managed just 7 shots in the opening frame. Daniel Maggio, Colin Suellentrop and Kyle Hope were human erasers on the back end demolishing everything in their way, and Generals goaltender, Kevin Bailie, was solid when he had to be.

The Generals looked sharp on the power play winning offensive zone faceoffs and sustaining solid pressure, but Bulls netminder, Malcolm Subban, met the challenge and made a number of impressive saves against Maggio and Scott Laughton in particular. Heading into the second, the game was scoreless with the Generals leading the shot parade 9-7.

In the second period, Bailie's assistance was required right away: he made a great glove save on Belleville Captain, Luke Judson, who found daylight between the Generals defence and their goaltender. Judson was a threat throughout the second, and he finally solved Bailie at 3:42 - Bailie made the initial right pad save, but a few extra whacks ensured that the puck crossed the goal line.

The line of Andy Andreoff, Lucas Lessio and Nicklas Jensen almost caught fire on the power play, but Subban had the answer stopping Andreoff who had a point blank scoring opportunity from the left side of the crease. The Generals power play seemed calm, composed and organized, but they just didn't have the final bite needed to even up the score. After two periods of play, Oshawa was still looking to break the ice, down 1-0, but they were even with Belleville with 15 shots through the first 40.

At the start of the third, Lessio was determined to end Subban's shutout bid. Lessio did a lap around the offensive zone, sifted through coverage and created a harried frenzy in front of the Bulls net. Alas, Subban refused to fold and the Generals were still left trying to solve the riddle that was the Belleville netminder.

Finally, with minutes left in the contest, the Generals power play connected. Kyle Hope and Nicklas Jensen set up target practice looking to puncture the back of the net by any means necessary. Jensen elated the home crowd when he paused briefly from the bottom of the circles before launching a missile over Subban into the top of the net at 15:55.

Deadlocked at 1, the two teams headed to overtime. Oshawa's best scoring opportunity came with 20 seconds left in the extra frame when Andreoff flew down the left side and breezed a wrist shot on goal that Subban just barely kicked aside with his left toe. The game was destined for a shootout.

Both Subban and Bailie traded goaltending gems before Belleville's Jason Shaw fired home the game winner, a wrist shot that beat Bailie short side.

Bailie and Jensen picked up the second and third star selections. Oshawa outshot Belleville 33-29 on the night.

Oshawa hits the road to Guelph this Friday November 18th to try to settle the Storm. Start time is 7:30 PM, and the game can be seen live on Rogers TV Durham.

Oshawa's next home game is this Saturday November 19th vs. the Kingston Frontenacs at the General Motors Centre. Start time is 7:05 PM.
