Gens Clinch Playoff Berth

Brampton, Ontario - The Oshawa Generals are playoff bound! They clinched a berth winning 5-2 over the Battalion on Sunday. The Gens relied on a balanced attack and had 5 different goal scorers before 2,540 at the Powerade Centre in Brampton. Lucas Lessio scored his team leading 33rd goal of the season. Kevin Bailie made 24 saves on the road to his third consecutive victory. Christian Thomas scored his 31st and is now just 2 goals shy of Marc Savard for 5th on the Generals' all-time list.

Congratulations to Andy Andreoff who played in his 277th career game as an Oshawa General. Andreoff surpasses James DeLory and is now the franchise leader in games played. With the win, Oshawa now sits 7th in the Eastern Conference.

In the first period, fresh off off killing a 5 on 3, the Generals struck first at 3:43. Lucas Lessio scored his team leading 33rd goal of the season and gave the Generals the 1-0 lead.

Maggio increased Oshawa's edge at 4:29 in the second after JP Labardo stole the puck in the neutral zone. The Gens were up by 2. Ian Watters cut into the lead at 10:21 and that's the way it stayed until 19:17. With just over 40 seconds left in the period, Nicklas Jensen dealt the Battalion a huge blow, rifling his 25th of the season from the high slot, Oshawa had a 3-1 cushion heading into the third.

Desperation led to penalty trouble for Brampton early in the final frame. Christian Thomas capitalized on the ensuing 5-on-3, ripping a left circle one-timer just inside the far post. Scott Laughton added another at 9:18 for a 5-1 Generals' lead. Mitchell Porowski got one back for Brampton at 19:07, in the final seconds of a 5-2 Generals' road victory.

Lucas Lessio, Christian Thomas and Kevin Bailie picked up the three star selections.

Oshawa heads up to Peterborough this Tuesday March 13th for the final road matchup between these two teams this season. Puck drops at 7:05 PM, and the game can be seen live on Rogers TV Durham.

The Generals return home on St. Patrick's Day, Saturday March 17th, to take on Mississauga in a game critical to Eastern Conference playoff seeding. Start time is 7:05 PM at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa. This Sunday March 18th, Oshawa is home to Peterborough for the final game of the 2011-2012 regular season. Puck drops at 6:05 PM. Come on out and support the Gens as they make a final push for the Conference 6 spot.
