Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Six different goal scorers chipped in to give the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors their third straight win on the road as they dropped the Ottawa 67's 6-3 in Ontario Hockey League action on Sunday afternoon.
Mika Partanen, Doug Harvey, Spenser Cobbold, Trevor Carrick, Sergey Kuptsov and Jamie Wise were the goal scorers for the Majors (31-27-1-6) who remain in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 69 points and three games left to play.
Majors Head Coach/General Manager James Boyd was impressed with the resiliency and discipline his club showed to finish off a big weekend on the road.
"Scoring an early goal on the power play and grabbing the lead was really big for us. It allowed us to get momentum and that was key. We played a workmanlike game and made a lot of smart plays out there, showed some good hockey sense.
"We've had different guys contributing throughout our lineup and a lot of guys are working hard. It was good to see Harvey and Cobbold rewarded with goals for their efforts and Max [Brandon Maxwell] has been great."
Partanen opened the scoring at 4:23 of the first period on the power play from Riley Brace and Kristoff Kontos, giving the Majors a 1-0 lead. Just over a minute later it was Harvey with his second goal of the season who put the Majors up 2-0 at 5:37, assisted by Andrew Goldberg and Brett Foy. Shane Prince cut the Majors lead to 2-1, scoring his 42nd goal of the season from Steven Janes and Sean Monahan at 16:45 before Mike Cazzola tied the game with just 37 seconds remaining in the first period from Janes and Prince at 19:23.
Cobbold regained the Majors lead with his seventh of the year from Kontos at 10:52 before Carrick closed out the second period scoring with his sixth of the season from Dylan DeMelo and Wise at 17:44, putting the Majors up 4-2.
Shots were 16-14 in favour of the 67's during the first period, while the Majors led 14-9 in the second period for a two period total of 28-25 for Mississauga.
Kuptsov notched his 13th goal of the season at the 3:41 mark of the third period from Eric Diodati giving the Majors a 5-2 lead. Cazzola made it 5-3 on the power play at 7:32 from Jake Cardwell and Tyler Toffoli but it was Wise who iced the victory for the Majors with an empty net goal giving him 29 on the season, from Brace and Cobbold at 19:49.
The Majors went 1-for-4 on the power play while the 67's were 1-for-2 with the man advantage.
Brandon Maxwell made 35 saves in goal for the Majors, while Michael Nishi stopped 30 of 35 shots he faced for the 67's.
