Gennaro Continues Goal Surge, Hitmen Down Giants in OT

Langley, BC - Matteo Gennaro scored his second goal of the night 1:09 into overtime to power the Calgary Hitmen to a 4-3 come-from-behind win over the Vancouver Giants on Friday night at the Langley Events Centre.

The Hitmen fought off a slow start, trailing 2-0 less than three minutes into the opening period, to secure a big two points. The victory moves them ahead of the Saskatoon Blades and into the final Eastern Conference Wild Card playoff spot.

Tristen Nielsen and Jakob Stukel also scored for Calgary while Brady Reagan collected three assists and Beck Malenstyn a pair of helpers. Gennaro, skating in his 250th career Western Hockey League game, added an assist to record his 150th career regular season point.

Owen Hardy, Johnny Wesley and Ty Ronning replied for Vancouver which outshot Calgary 34-32.

Goaltender Trevor Martin made 31 saves for the Hitmen who improve to 3-1-2 in their last six games away from the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The Hitmen, 19-23-7-2, wrap up their B.C. road trip in Victoria against the Royals on Saturday, Feb. 4. Calgary returns to the 'Dome to begin a three-game homestand and a stretch of seven of the next eight at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday, Feb. 8 against the Regina Pats. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
