Swift Current Broncos News Release

Swift Current, SK: The Swift Current Broncos Hockey Club announced Sunday evening that forward Matteo Gennaro has signed a one-year AHL deal with the Tuscon Roadrunners of the American Hockey League.

The 21-year-old WHL graduate split his final season with the WHL's Calgary Hitmen before joining the Swift Current Broncos via a midseason trade and totalled 79 points (42g-37a) in 67 games. Gennaro passed the 40-goal mark for the second straight season and skated in his 300th career WHL regular season game back in December.

Gennaro was an essential piece to the Broncos championship run to the Ed Chynoweth Cup as he notched 18 points (9g-9a) including his first career playoff hat trick in a 3-2 Game Four overtime win against the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Listed at 6'3", 198 lbs, Gennaro suited up for the Prince Albert Raiders along with the Hitmen and Broncos during his five year career. He was originally drafted by Prince Albert in the second round, 41st overall in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. For his career, Gennaro finished his five-year WHL career recording 248 points (124g-124a) in 338 games.

Gennaro joins Broncos forward Tyler Steenbergen and former Bronco Lane Pederson as Swift Current players that are presently under contract with the Arizona Coyotes organization in some form. Steenbergen signed a three-year NHL entry-level deal with Arizona back in March 2018 while Pederson put pen to paper last season on a three-year contract.
