Oshawa Generals News Release
The Generals took to the ice for their final game of the regular season tonight, ultimately coming out with a 3-1 win over the Belleville Bulls. Your Oshawa Generals finish the season with a record of 51-11-2-4, breaking the record for most wins and most points in a season.
Several players had a rest game tonight including Brown, Cassels, Mistele, Smith, Mermis, Vande Sompel, and Dal Colle for the Generals. Belleville took a similar approach tonight with Graham, Welychka, Subban, Colella, and Bignell all listed as scratches tonight. The first period was dominated by the Generals, who outshot the Bulls 16-7. Tobias Lindberg got things started early for the Generals when he put a goal past Connor Hicks at 0:48. The goal was assisted by Brent Pedersen and Anthony Cirelli. The Bulls retaliated at 4:53 when Trent Fox got a goal past Appleby, assisted by Saban and Hicks. The period closed with the score tied at one apiece.
The first intermission wrapped up with an award ceremony presented by the Oshawa Generals Booster Club. Anthony Cirelli was voted Rookie of the Year, Cole Cassels was voted as Most Valuable Forward, Chris Carlisle took the award for Most Valuable Defenseman, Ken Appleby won the Dedication and Perseverance Memorial Trophy, Aidan Wallace was voted Most Underrated Player, and Josh Brown took home the President's Award and Most Valuable Teammate Award.
The second period was similar to the first, with the Generals outshooting the Bulls, this time 22-10. Michael Turner gave the Generals a lead at 2:45 when he scored, assisted by Templeton and Manchurek. Aside from the goal, it was a rather uneventful period and only one penalty was called when Stephen Desrocher had to sit for holding at 11:01. The second frame ended with the Generals holding a 2-1 lead.
Early in the third, Michael McCarron took a slap shot that hit Hicks right in the collarbone. After a brief stoppage, Hicks was up and okay and the game continued. Shortly after he went down however, Chris Carlisle scored the third Generals goal of the game. The goal came assisted by Latour and McCarron and gave the Generals a 3-1 lead over the Bulls. About five minutes into the period, Turner and Lemcke dropped the gloves and Turner dropped Lemcke before both players were sent off to the penalty box for fighting. Just minutes later, Michael McCarron put in a goal that immediately went under review. After a review, it was determined that it was not a goal, but the Generals continued to carry a 3-1 lead. Despite the Generals dominating the Bulls end during the third and getting a huge amount of shots on goal, they couldn't get any more goals past Hicks. Jeremy Brodeur picked up his 13th win of the season in his 20th start as a General tonight in the 3-1 win over the Bulls.
Tonight marked the final game of the regular season for Oshawa. The Generals had an amazing season and managed to break a franchise record for the most wins and points in a regular season. Playoffs start this Friday, Mar. 27 at 7:30 p.m. when the Generals and the Peterborough Petes get the playoff action started.
