Greensboro Generals News Release

Greensboro, NC -- The Greensboro Generals improved to 7-4-2 on the season, and picked up their second straight win with a 2-1 victory over the visiting Trenton Titans. The victory moved the Generals into a four-way tie for third place in the Northeast Division with Trenton, the Richmond Renegades, and Roanoke Express. All four teams are only three points out of first place.

In the first game of a two game set with the Titans, Greensboro got key performances from goaltender Daniel Berthiaume, Pete Gardiner, and Shane Campbell. Berthiaume stopped 33 of 34 shots, and made key saves in the waning minute of play to preserve the victory. Berthiaume is now 7-1-2 on the season, and is only five wins shy of 300 for his career.

Pete Gardiner scored the first goal on a power play opportunity, at the 11:24 mark of the second period on assists from Jay Murphy and Matt Turek. The second and decisive goal came just 23 seconds into the third period, when Shane Campbell notched his first goal on the season on Geno Parrish's team leading ninth assist. Berthiaume lost his shutout at the 3:09 mark of the third period on a Chris Lynch goal, but he stopped everything else that came his way.

With the Generals improving to 7-4-2 on the season, Greensboro is three games over the 500-mark for just the second time in the franchise's four-year history. If the Generals defeat the Titans tomorrow, they will be four games over .500 for the first time ever.

The Generals will face the Titans again tomorrow night, with a 7:30 start time at the Greensboro Coliseum. There is a food drive to benefit Greensboro Urban Ministry and the Winston Salem Crisis Control Ministry. All fans who bring in a canned food item will receive two dollars off their admission.
