Flint Generals News Release


Player Notes: Gerard Miller has taken the lead in scoring for the team with 15 points on six goals and nine assists...Mike Zbriger, Jan Eriksson and Tony Tuzzolino are all one point back with 14 points...Tuzzolino has scored a point in seven of nine games played with the Generals...Jeff Zehr has scored a goal in two straight games...Zbriger is tied for eighth in rookie scoring and tied for second among rookies with 11 goals...Gerard Miller is tied for fifth and Martin Ondrej and Shaun Fisher are tied for 11th in defensemen scoring.

Team Notes: The Generals ended an 0-40 slump on the power play that lasted over 16 periods when Jeff Zehr scored a power play goal at 15:07 of the first period on Sunday...The Generals power play has fallen to seventh in the league at 14.4%...The Generals penalty kill is eighth in the league at 82.7%...The Generals lead the league in shots on goal against per game at 28.62...17 of the Generals first 26 games have been decided by two goals or less and the Generals are 9-6-2 in those games.

GENERALS WEEK IN REVIEW December 4-December 10

Wednesday, December 6 Flint 1 @ Chicago 5

The Generals traveled to Chicago to play the game that was cancelled on November 3. Chicago took an early 1-0 lead with a power play goal at :40 of the first period. The Hounds added two more even strength goals at 2:19 and 8:31 to take a 3-0 lead after one period. Chicago extended its lead to 4-0 with a goal at 9:50 of the third period and scored their final goal nine seconds later to lead 5-0. The Generals scored their only goal at 17:50. The shorthanded goal was scored by Bobby Reynolds from Shaun Fisher and Tony Tuzzolino. Jason Muzzatti made 28 saves on 33 shots in the loss.

Friday, December 8 Muskegon 5 @ Flint 0

The Muskegon Fury shutout the Generals for the second time this season and handed the Generals their third shutout loss of the season. Muskegon scored a power play goal at 14:47 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The Fury added two second period goals to lead 3-0. Two Muskegon power play goals in the third period ended the scoring. The Generals out shot the Fury 34-31 in the game. Bryan Worosz made 26 saves on 31 shots in the loss.

Saturday, December 9 Flint 3 @ Kalamazoo 2

The Generals traveled to Kalamazoo for the third time this season and came away with their second win at Wings Stadium. Jeff Zehr gave the Generals a 1-0 lead at 3:19 of the first period on a goal from Dion Hyman and Tony Tuzzolino. Jason Selleke extended the lead to 2-0 at 4:53 of the second period. The goal was assisted by Terry Marchant and Hyman. Kalamazoo scored twice in the third period to tie the game 2-2. Tuzzolino broke the tie at 18:03 on a goal assisted by Martin Ondrej and Mike Kinnie. Bryan Worosz made 39 saves on 41 shots for the win.

Sunday, December 10 Bloomington 2 @ Flint 4

The Generals closed the week with its second win of the season over Bloomington. Flint took a 1-0 lead on a Jeff Zehr power play goal at 15:07 of the first period from Shaun Fisher and Tony Tuzzolino. Gerard Miller added a power play goal at 5:47 of the second period from Bobby Reynolds and Martin Ondrej to give the Generals a 2-0 lead. Bloomington was awarded a penalty shot at 2:40 of the third period but Jason Muzzatti made the save on Mathieu Brunelle. Zehr scored his second goal of the game at 7:10 to give Flint a 3-0 lead. The Prairie Thunder scored even strength goals at 7:32 and 13:18 to get back to within one goal at 3-2. Greg Snitowsky ended the scoring at 13:25 with his first goal of the season to give the Generals a 4-2 lead. Muzzatti made 21 saves on 23 shots for the win.

PREVIEW OF UPCOMING GENERALS GAMES December 11-December 17

Friday, December 15 Flint @ Chicago 8:30p.m.

The Generals travel to Chicago for the second time this season. It will be the third time Flint has played Chicago this season with Chicago winning the first two games. The Hounds won 5-0 in Flint on October 20 and 5-1 in Chicago on December 6.

Saturday, December 16 Elmira @ Flint 7:30p.m.

This will be the fifth meeting of the season between these two teams, the third game in Flint. The Generals are 0-3-1 against the Jackals this season, 0-2-0 at home. This will be the third of seven games between Flint and Elmira in Flint this season.

Sunday, December 17 Flint @ Port Huron 5:00p.m.

The Generals and the Flags meet for the sixth time this season, third time in Port Huron. The Generals are 4-1-0 against the Flags this season having won four straight. The Generals are 2-0-0 in Port Huron.

Generals Player of the Week:

The Generals Player of the Week is Tony Tuzzolino. Tuzzolino had six points in four games last week on one goal and five assists. He assisted on the only Flint goal on Wednesday and had the game-winning goal and an assist on Saturday. He ended the week with three assists on Sunday and played at a +3 rating for the week.

Generals Goaltender of the Week:

The Generals Goaltender of the Week is Bryan Worosz. Worosz went 1-1-0 in two games last week. He made 39 saves on 41 shots for a 3-2 win in Kalamazoo on Saturday. His save percentage for the week was .903 and his goals against average was 3.50.
