Generals take first place in Central Division

Week In Review - The Generals claim hold of first place outright in the Central Division as league play begins this week. Last week, Flint posted a record of 2-0-1 netting five of a possible six points. On Wednesday, December 8, 2004 in Kalamazoo, the Generals came-from-behind to earn a shootout point in a 3-2 shootout loss against the Wings. Right Wing Jim Duhart (3) and Bobby Reynolds (8) scored for Flint. Goaltender Dan McIntyre earned the shootout point stopping 28 of 30 shots. On Friday night, The Generals defeated the visiting Danbury Trashers 4-3 at Perani Arena. Right wing Rob Valicevic paced the attack with two goals and one assist. Duhart (4) scored against his former teammates and center Chad Grills (2) scored the game-winner. Goaltender Marco Emond stopped 34 of 37 shots for his 8th victory of the season. On Sunday, the Generals closed out another great week of hockey with a 4-1 victory over the Elmira Jackals. Flint held the 2-0 lead after the first period and never looked back. Bobby Reynolds (9), Mike Kinnie (16), Jim Duhart (6) with the game-winning goal and John DiPace (7) scored for Flint. Dan McIntyre was rock-solid between the pipes stopping 28 of 30 shots for his 6th victory of the season.

Sherwood/UHL Player of the Week Nominee - Right Wing Jim Duhart is our nominee for the Sherwood/U.H.L. Player of the Week ending December 5, 2004. In three games, Duhart had three goals, three assists for six points and was plus four. Duhart registered one goal and one assist in all three games including the game-winner against the Elmira Jackals.

Southern Sports Supply/UHL Goaltender of the Week Nominee - Dan McIntyre is our nominee for the Southern Sports Supply/U.H.L. Goaltender of the Week ending December 12 2004. McIntyre posted a record of 1-0-1 last week earning a shootout point at Kalamazoo and a 4-1 victory over the Elmira Jackals. McIntyre stopped 56 of 60 shots, a .933 save percentage. This weekend will mark the only visit by the Generals to Adirondack for the two games this weekend. The Frostbite are coached by former Detroit Red Wing player, Marc Potvin. The leading scorers are center Hugo Belanger (13g, 20a, 33 pts.) and right wing Justin Kelly (14g, 17a, 31 pts.). Right wing Frank Littlejohn (84) and left wing Scott Page (81) lead the team in penalty minutes. Goaltender Derek Gustafson has been the workhorse appearing in 22 games posting a record of 14-5-3. Former Generals' goaltender Jan Chovan is also with the Frostbite with one victory to his credit. The Frostbite won two of three games last week starting out with a 4-2 victory at Elmira on Wednesday, December 8, 2004. Adirondack lost at home to Richmond, 5-2 last Friday before returning the favor with a 6-5 shootout victory at Richmond on Saturday. The two home games against the Generals are the only league games for the Frostbite this week.

Sunday afternoon is the second and final visit to Elmira this season. The Generals are 2-0 against the Jackals with a 3-1 victory at Elmira (11/26) and a 4-1 victory in Flint last Saturday (12/11). Elmira is coached by University of Michigan alumnus Todd Brost. The Jackals are lead by the league's top scorer, right wing Greg Koehler (23g, 21a, 44 pts.). Right wing Jason Sessa ((15g, 13a, 28 pts.) and defenseman Trevor Burgess (2g, 19a, 21 pts.) pace of offensive attack. Defenseman Chris Shaw (95) is the Jackals' penalty minutes leader. Elmira is winless in their last six games (0-5-1). Last week, on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 the Jackals lost at home 4-2 to Adirondack. Elmira hit the road for three games on the weekend with a 1-0 loss at Port Huron on Friday, December 10th, the 4-1 loss at Flint on Saturday, and dropped a 5-3 decision at Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon. Before hosting the Generals on Sunday afternoon, Elmira will play two games at Danbury on Friday and Saturday night.

Record: (14-8-3, 31 pts.) First Place, Central Division

Leading scorers: Bobby Reynolds, (9g, 24a, 33 pts.), Mike Kinnie (16g, 13a, 29 pts.) and Rob Valicevic (12g, 16a. 28 pts.) Penalty minutes leader is Kris Waltze (124). Kinnie continues to lead all U.H.L. rookies in points (29) goals (16), power play goals (8). Reynolds is tied for third in league scoring (33 pts.) and second in assists (24). Valicevic is tied for the league lead in short-handed goals (3) and is tied for second in game-winning goals (3). Goaltender Dan McIntyre is currently 3rd in the U.H.L. in goals against average (2.00) and tied for the lead in save percentage (.935). Goaltender Marco Emond is among the leading goaltenders in the league with a 2.23 goals against average and has posted two shutouts this season.
