January 18, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Motor City Mechanics News Release
FLINT, MI-Adam Edinger and Peter Szabo each net two points, but the Flint Generals took charge by scoring three unanswered goals twice and take the game 6-4 tonight at Perani Arena.
Vlad Serov gave the Mechanics the early 1-0 lead when he recorded his first goal of the season. The Generals responded with three straight goals of their own and held onto the lead heading into the intermission up 3-1.
In the second period it was the Adam Edinger and Peter Szabo show as they figured in on two of the three Mechanic goals. Edinger lit the lamp, his 24th of the season, while Szabo and Gretzky assisted. Minutes later Greg Bullock would tie the game at 3-3 with his 11th goal of the season. Later in the period Edinger would score again to give the Mechanics the 4-3 lead with another helper from Szabo.
From there on out it was the Generals who took control as they went onto score three more goals, unanswered, and eventually held on for the same 6-4 lead as neither team would score in the third period.
Rod Branch made his 34th start in net making 12 saves before being replaced in the second period by Bill Ruggiero. Ruggiero looked solid as he finished with 6 saves on 7 shots.
The Mechanics remain on the road for the next two games in which they will face two divisional opponents. Friday the Mechanics are in Muskegon, Saturday the Mechanics are in Port Huron and Sunday the Mechanics return home to face the Quad City Mallards.
