Trashers tame Vipers, 7-4

ROANOKE, VA--Drew Omicioli scored a pair of goals, while 11 of the 15 skaters notched at least one point as Danbury crushed the Roanoke Valley Vipers on Wedneday night 7-4 from the Roanoke Civic Center.

Drew Omicioli opened the scoring with the first of two goals at the 3:16 mark. However the Vipers would fire a pair of goals by David Beauregard and Mike Wiggins to take a 2-1 lead by the 5:25 mark. Fred Belanger netted his 4th of the season to re-tie the score at the 10:43 mark, while Danny Stewart scored an unassisted shorthanded goal at 19:12 to give Danbury the lead for the remainder of the game.

Alex Goupil netted his 14th at the 4:53 mark to give the Trashers a 4-2 lead before Wiggins netted his second of the night at 12:35. Momentum shifted back to Danbury as Regan Kelly blasted a slapshot by Shawn Conschafter at the 19:59 mark to give Danbury a 5-3 lead.

Omicioli and Dave MacIsaac netted goals in the final period to give Danbury a 7-3 lead before LP Martin scored a power play goal at 15:28 to finish the scoring.

Sly Daigle stopped 28 of 32 shots for the win, while Conschafter saved only 22 of 28 before he was pulled for Trevor Cunning, who allowed one goal in his Roanoke debut. The Trashers extended their lead in the UHL East to 10 points over Adirondack with the win.

Danbury returns to the ice on Friday night as they face Elmira at 7:05pm. On Saturday they'll face the Adirondack Frostbite at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

The Trashers return home on Sunday January 22nd at 7:00pm against Adirondack. Sunday's game is also NASCAR Theme Jersey Night as a silent auction will be held for the game-worn jersey from the game.
