LAST GAME: The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks, gave the Montgomery Biscuits a taste of their own baked goods, bouncing back from a Wednesday shutout to hold the Biscuits scoreless in a 5-0 win on Thursday. The victory at Riverwalk Stadium brings Jackson (25-20) back within 3.5 games of Montgomery (29-17) in the North Division. Full Recap: JacksonGeneralsBaseball.com

TODAY'S PITCHING MATCHUP: Friday night's Montgomery-Jackson arms race should be a barn-burner. Jackson's Riley Smith has put up four consecutive starts in May with seven innings pitched and one run allowed, working to a 0.64 ERA. He's opposed by right-hander Sam McWilliams, who was a teammate of Smith's at Kane County in 2017 and Visalia in 2018. McWilliams, a trade chip gained by the Tampa Bay Rays last year in the deal with Arizona for Steven Souza Jr., has dealt six innings in each of his last two starts with one run allowed in each outing.

RECOGNIZE RILEY: If you still don't know the name Riley Smith, learn it. The Generals' staff ace is number one with a bullet in May, throwing 28 innings in four starts to lead all Double-A pitchers nationwide. He's given up one run in each outing, good enough for a 0.64 ERA in May. He's also induced five groundball double plays, posting a groundout-to-air-out ratio of 1.32 while holding batters to a .196 average.

HOW ABOUT THIS YOUNGSTER: Infielder Andy Young has had a bit of an upswing in recent days despite a slow start to the year. Young has nine hits in his last nine games, batting .321 in that span with six runs scored, a homer, four walks and six RBI. Young has also proven to be a capable defender in the infield, making three errors across 332 innings between second base, third base, and shortstop this year (through May 23).

LUETGE LOOKING SHARP: Left-hander Lucas Luetge is having a terrific bounce-back campaign after recuperating from Tommy John surgery throughout 2018. No Double-A pitcher has appeared in more games (19) than Luetge. His frequent usage has been warranted: Luetge's 1.25 ERA and .151 BAA are both top-5 league marks among relievers with at least 20.0 IP.

ALL THE KIDS ARE DOING IT: The Junior Generals Kids Club has been completely revamped for 2019, with close to 200 participants already signed up!
