March 7, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release

The Oshawa Generals made a familiar trip down the 401 to Kingston Friday night to take on the Frontenacs, it would be the team's final meeting of the season. The last game the two teams played was the previous Sunday, giving the Generals two points in a 3-2 shootout win and the East Division Title in the process. It was the Generals third straight win against Kingston, before that the Frontenacs beat the Gens in a lopsided 9-4 victory in Kingston. The Frontenacs sit third in the Eastern Conference with 74 points, third place is the highest the Fronts can finish in the standings, as second place is reserved for the Central Division winner, currently occupied by the Sudbury Wolves. The Frontenacs were without 2014 NHL Entry Draft prospect Sam Bennett as he awaited suspension from the OHL for an altercation from his previous game.

It was a familiar goal scorer getting the Generals an early lead in the first, as Scott Laughton put home a slapshot on the PowerPlay just 8:12 into the game. Daniel Altshuller faced ten shots during the period, while his counterpart Lucas Peressini also faced ten shots in what was a fast paced, chippy period. Two unlikely fighting candidates in Cole Cassels and Henri Ikonen dropped their gloves for the first fight of the game after they were tangled up behind the play. Next up was rookie Jacob Busch and Conor McGlynn ending the intensity and leaving the Generals with a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes of play.

The Generals scored the first goal of the second period as well, courtey of another veteran Cole Cassels, as he put home a wrist shot from almost the same position as Laughton's goal, Cassels chose a wrist shot that beat Peressini on the glove side. The Frontenacs cut the lead in half just under two minutes later as defenseman Roland McKeown put home his 10th of the season. Before the Generals could catch their breath, the game was tied as speedster Corey Pawley put in his 11th goal. Ryan Kujawinski gave the Frontenacs the lead three minutes later on the PowerPlay and they did not look back the rest of the period. McKeown scored a shorthanded goal after Kujawinski stripped Laughton of the puck and broke in alone, bringing the puck back in front of the net before Mckeown jammed it under Altshuller. Evan McEneny scored with one second remaining on the PowerPlay to end the scoring for the period and leave the Frontenacs with a 5-2 lead.

Corey Pawley extended the Frontenacs lead to four just 19 seconds into the third period, Kenny Appleby had replaced Altshuller for the third and would face only five shots all period, allowing only the first one. The Generals outshot the Frontenacs 10-5 in the period but were unable to gain back any of the ground they had lost in the second and dropped the game 6-2.

The Generals outshot the Frontenacs 35-28 overall, including 15-13 in the second when they gave up five goals. Michael Dal Colle added two more assists to his season total, extending his point streak to three games where he has three goals and three assists.
