Windsor Spitfires News Release
Three goals in a four-minute stretch of the first period got the home side going, as the Otters beat the Windsor Spitfires 6-1 in front of 5,639 at the Erie Insurance Arena on Friday night.
The line of Connor McDavid, Dane Fox and Connor Brown combined for eight points, as Erie (48-14- 2-0) won on home ice for the 28th time this season.
Ben Johnson's 25th goal of the season opened the scoring as Windsor (36-25-3-0) recorded its first shot at the 8:22 mark of the first period. But that's as much offense as the Spitfires, playing their first game without captain Slater Koekkoek, could muster.
Koekkoek was diagnosed with a separated right shoulder earlier in the day, and is now lost to the club for the remainder of the regular season and playoffs.
Dalen Kuchmey made 35 saves in a losing effort for the Spits, while Oscar Dansk had 16 stops. The Spits return home Sunday afternoon for a date with the Soo Greyhounds. Gametime is 2:05.
