Belleville Bulls News Release
A group of former Belleville Bulls have been standouts in the University hockey ranks this past season.ÃÂ DefencemenÃÂ Stephen Silas andÃÂ Joe Underwood with the University of Waterloo and goaltenderÃÂ Parker Van BuskirkÃÂ with the University of WindsorÃÂ have all received special recognition by the OUA. Additionally, ex-Bulls defencemanÃÂ Julian LucianiÃÂ with the University of Windsor was also among the award recipients.ÃÂ
Silas, the Bulls' franchise games played leader is in his rookie season with the University of Waterloo. The former Colorado Avalanche draft pick was named to the OUA West Division All-Rookie team, recording a goal and 5 assists in 28 games. Silas saw big minutes as a rookie and was a dependable option on the blueline for Waterloo Head CoachÃÂ Brian Bourque. Silas is now studying in the Arts Faculty at Waterloo.
Silas was joined by Waterloo team captainÃÂ Joe Underwood who was named an OUA West Division Second Team All-Star. The Canton, Michigan native was acquired by the Bulls in his overaged season from the Saginaw Spirit. A steady defender, Underwood has developed his offensive game in the University ranks and had 3 goals and 19 assists in 25 games. The Warriors finished the season 12-12-4 and failed to qualify for the postseason.
Seeing considerable success in Windsor, former Bulls goaltenderÃÂ Parker Van Buskirk was named an OUA West Division Second Team All-Star. Van Buskirk had stops in Sarnia, Saginaw, Belleville and Kitchener in his OHL career and is in his third season with the Lancers program. Windsor finished the season with a record of 17-11-0 as Van Buskirk sported a 2.66 goals against average and a .920 save percentage in 26 contests.ÃÂ
Van Buskirk's teammateÃÂ Julian Luciani had a stellar rookie season in Windsor after being a standout for the St. Catharines Falcons Jr. B club last year. Luciani played 62 games as a Bull before making stops in Sarnia and Ottawa. The Mississauga native had 4 goals and 8 assists in 28 games and joined Silas as a defenceman on the OUA West Division All-Rookie team.
After defeating the York Lions in round one of playoff action and the Western Mustangs in round two, the Windsor Lancers are currently leading the OUA West Final 1-0 over Lakehead. The winner of the series will face the winner of Carleton and McGill in the OUA Finals.
