Oshawa Generals News Release

The Ottawa 67's defeated the Oshawa Generals 7-5 on Sunday night at Tribute Communities Centre. Oshawa now has just one win against Ottawa this season in four matchups.

Vsevolod Gaidamak and Adam Varga scored twice for the 67's, who improved to 10-5-0-1 on the season with

Ryan Stepien led the way for the Generals with a career high goal and three assists, and Ty Tullio had three points as well, but it wasn't enough to lift the Generals to victory tonight. Oshawa is now four points back of Ottawa in the East Division with a record of 7-5-1-2.

For a game that saw such a high volume of goals, the first period concluded with a score of 1-1. Ty Tullio opened the scoring 16:18 into the period, while Ottawa's Vsevolod Gaidamak responded 2:29 later to tie the game.

Adam Varga got the 67's rolling in the second period with a quick goal, but Ryan Stepien would later tie the game with his team-leading 11th of the season.

The final five minutes of the period was all Ottawa, as they netted three goals past Patrick Leaver in a span of one minute and fifty-seven seconds. That blew the game wide-open, as Ottawa headed into the 2nd intermission with a 5-2 lead.

Thomas Stewart got one back for the Generals early in the 3rd period for his first goal of his OHL career, but Vinzenz Rohrer scored to give the 67's a three-goal lead once again.

Then the 67's got into some powerplay trouble, which included a five-minute major to Thomas Johnston for a slew-foot. The Generals capitalized twice on the powerplay to bring the game within one; however, it was too little too late. Gaidamak secured the victory for Ottawa with an empty-net goal with 41 seconds remaining.

Patrick Leaver stopped 31 of 37 shots in this game, as it was the first time this season that he has allowed more than four goals in one game.

The Generals are back in action on Friday night at 7:35 p.m. as they play host to the North Bay Battalion.
