Owen Sound Attack News Release
After struggling in the first two meetings against the Guelph Storm, the Owen Sound Attack broke through and shut down the potent Storm offence for a big 3-1 win Saturday night.
The win gives the Attack a three game winning streak, and points in five straight games.
"It's awesome," said captain Mark Woolley. "The guys are all starting to buy into the system and we are working hard. It's just a great feeling and I'm proud of every guy in this locker room."
It was a rough start for the Bears, as an early penalty opened the door for the Storm to jump out to an early lead, as sharpshooter Sasha Pastujov ripped a shot past Attack goalie Nick Chenard. It was the only shot to elude Chenard all night as he shut the door on the Storm from there on out.
The Attack responded with a power play goal of their own, as it was assistant captain Stepan Machacek, from his office, as he jammed home a loose puck, after a Servac Petrovsky shot. The Bears would push for a second goal but could not find the back of the net before the period ended.
It was a back and forth start to the middle frame as the team's tried to find an opening to break the dead lock. It was just over the midway point of the period, when Petrovsky battled out of the corner to retrieve a loose puck, before finding Cedrick Guindon in the low slot. The young centre made no mistake burying a shot top corner off the back bar to give the Attack the 2-1 lead.
After taking the lead the Attack were forced to kill off an extended 5-on-3 man disadvantage late in the second period. Owen Sound was successful with a huge kill, as they generated great momentum and getting the crowd loud, before heading into the locker room.
Owen Sound displayed great team defence throughout the third period as they kept the Storm to the outside, not letting the visitors gain anything in the middle of the ice.
Gavin Bryant sealed the win with an empty net goal with just five-seconds left on the clock.
After giving up the first goal, Chenard stood tall and shut the door, as he finished with 45 saves and earned first star of the game.
Owen Sound will now travel to Guelph for a rematch Friday night at the Sleeman Centre, before returning to the Bayshore for a Saturday night game against the Saginaw Spirit.
