Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa â Two of the world's giants in cereal production â General Mills and Quaker Oats â will meet Friday night in a "friendly'' 12-inch charity softball game at Veterans Memorial Stadium. First pitch is at 6:20 p.m., gates open at 6.
General Mills won the opportunity to play a softball game at the stadium during a silent auction at last January's Hot Stove Banquet. The proceeds from the banquet (nearly $10,000) were donated to Tanager Place of Cedar Rapids.
General Mills invited Quaker Oats to participate in tonight's game with proceeds to benefit Tanager Place and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Each company will be making a donation to these causes. Also, a large cereal bowl will be placed behind home plate where donations will be welcomed and appreciated.
The public is invited to attend. Admission is free. Concession stands will be open so no carry-in food or beverages are allowed.
Contests will be held between innings and a home run contest follows the game at 7:30.
