West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

The West Michigan Whitecaps got a hometown hero performance to help provide a road victory on Thursday night in Peoria, Illinois. Whitecaps outfielder Jason Knoedler, who is from nearby Springfield, Illinois, delivered a bases loaded, two-run single in the seventh inning for the only runs of the game in a 2-0 Whitecaps win. The victory came in the first game of a four game weekend series for the 'Caps against the Peoria Chiefs.

The winning rally was helped by a costly error that extended the inning before Knoedler delivered his second game-winning hit in less than a week. Knoedler had hit a home run last Saturday to give the 'Caps a one run victory over Lansing.

Four West Michigan pitchers combined to hold Peoria to just five singles for the game. Starter Matt Parris threw six innings of shutout ball for the win and closer Ian Ostlund notched his 17th save.

The Whitecaps and Chiefs will meet again on Friday night in Peoria in game two of the series at 8:00 Michigan time.
