LANSING -- The Lansing Lugnuts lost their 12th game of their previous 14 on Thursday night at Oldsmobile Park, committing five errors in a 9-1 loss to the Fort Wayne Wizards.

Lansing also threw four wild pitches in a futile attempt to reverse the team's fortunes in the series opener.

The Wizards scored five (three earned) off of Lugnut starter Anderson Tavarez, mostly off the bat of designated hitter Colt Morton, who clubbed a three-run homer in the fourth inning and plated a run with a double in the sixth. Tavarez left after the inning, having allowed five hits, striking out two.

Fort Wayne scored three more times in the seventh, all precipitated by three errors; two by first baseman Kevin Collins and one by reliever Craig Green. Clay Rapada, too, suffered due to a Lugnut error in the ninth. When shortstop Robinson Chirinos threw away a ball in the ninth, Lansing gave up its sixth unearned run of the game.

Chirinos singled in Lansing's only run in the eighth, plating Kevin Collins.

Fort Wayne's Cory Doyne won his first game in a Wizards jersey, throwing six innings of shutout, two-hit ball. He was throwing a no-hitter until Keith Butler singled with two outs in the fifth.

Game two of the series is at 7:05 p.m. on Friday. Lansing righty Dan Foli will pitch.
